Top 9 Spring 2023 of The Most Expected New Anime Ranking

In the spring of 2023, a number of animations will also be broadcast, including “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village,” which was a huge hit as both an anime and a live-action movie, and a sequel to the very popular “Mobile Suit Gundam THE WITCH FROM MERCURY” anime.

Now, ANIME SAMURAI carried out our survey of 150 Japanese people to find out what they are looking forward to in the spring anime of 2023. The results, along with the reasons for their choices, are presented here in a ranking format.

No. 1 was “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village”. This is the fourth season of the TV anime series “Demon Slayer.” The broadcasted anime is based on the comics of the same title by Koyoharu Gotoge. The comic has sold over 150 million copies in total. The Original Work features the dark fantasy story of Tanjiro Kamado. After most of his family members were killed by demons, he joins the Demon Slayer Corps to engage in fierce battles in order to return his surviving sister from a demon into a human. This film, “To the Swordsmith Village,” depicts Tanjiro, after he won the battle against Gyutaro in Upper Rank Six (in the previous movie “Yuukaku-hen,”) visits a village where swordsmiths live, in order to reacquire his lost Nichirin Sword. Appearances of two of the highest ranking swordsmen of the Demon Slayer Corps, Tokito Muichiro in Mist Hashira and Mitsuki Kanroji in Love Hashira, and battle scenes with the demons of Upper Rank Six sent by the Demon King, Kibutsuji Muzan are worth paying our attention. It won first place with an overwhelming number of votes.

I’m very excited about this sequel to Demon Slayer. I can’t wait to see how strong Tanjiro will become and to learn about the other Hashira’s characteristics. The images are also very powerful and beautifully drawn, so I have high expectations for that as well.

The second place went to “Mobile Suit Gundam THE WITCH FROM MERCURY season 2,” the second season of the latest Gundam series “Mobile Suit Gundam THE WITCH FROM MERCURY,” which continues from the 1979 anime work “Mobile Suit Gundam.” The story is about the advancement of a number of companies into the universe. The story takes place in A.S. (Ad Stella) 122, where numerous companies have expanded into space and established a huge economic zone. The second season of the robot animation depicts the main character, Suletta Mercury, who is transferred to the Asticassia School of Technology from Mercury, an educational institution run by the Benerit Group, the largest mobile suit manufacturer. The second season takes place two weeks after the shocking incident at Plant Queta that occurred in the last scene of the previous film. The story follows Sletta and Miorine, the only daughter of the president of the Benerit Group, as they confront the powerful curse brought about by the Gundam.

Third place went to “Pokemon” of New Series. A new TV animation series based on the “Pokémon” video game series, the main character replaces Ash, who has finally become the world champion in Pokémon battles, and portrays two main characters: Rico, a girl with a mysterious pendant, and Roy, a boy with a mysterious monster ball. Pokémon appearing in the film include Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly, and the legendary Pokémon Black Rayquaza, which appeared in the latest game “Pokémon Scarlet Violet,” as well as Pikachu as the sidekick of new character Freed. In fourth place was “Oshi no Ko.” This is a TV anime adaptation of a very popular manga that has attracted a lot of attention for its novel and shocking story about a fave Japanese idol and an otaku. The story depicts the unique world of Aqua and Ruby, male and female twins who are reincarnated as the children of Hoshino Ai, the idol they admired with memories of their previous lives, and how they enter the world of entertainment with their own feelings in mind. The story incorporates elements of suspense within a fantasy setting. Highlights include a serious plot that delves into the dark side of the entertainment world, the conflicts and growth of Aqua and Ruby, and fascinating characters. The theme song by “YOASOBI,” which has garnered tremendous support from the younger generation in Japan, is also noteworthy!

Also in fourth place was “Golden Kamuy: The Fourth Season.” This is the fourth season of the anime series based on the popular manga series, which has sold more than 24 million copies. The story is set in Karafuto, Hokkaido, at the end of the Meiji period during the gold rush. In this adventure drama, Saichi Sugimoto, a hero of the Russo-Japanese War nicknamed “Sugimoto the Immortal,” and Asirpa, an Ainu girl whose father was killed by a man who stole buried gold from the Ainu, meet and work together to search for the huge gold reserves stolen from the Ainu. The film has an excellent balance of seriousness and comedy, and its highlights are the intertwining of various elements such as survival, Ainu culture, Hokkaido’s gourmet food, and the survivors of the Shinsengumi. You can’t take your eyes off the get-rich-quick survival.

The story is a comedy about a newly couple, Tsukasa and Nasa. Tsukasa is a very cute girl, and Nasa is a boy who falls in love with Tsukasa at first sight. In the first season, after a fateful encounter and a marriage proposal, the newly couples deepen their love despite the trouble of their apartment burning down, and in this season, new characters are introduced in addition to the Arisugawa family and the innocent girl, Chitose. The anime will also depict the hidden secret of Tsukasa, which has been eagerly awaited for its release.

I know Hata Sensei’s previous manga “Hayate the combat butler” awesome, so I enjoy “Fly Me to the Moon” a lot, though I have not read the original work.
